Chicana-Korean Human Rights Activist Killed
On April 14, Catherine Han Montoya–a queer mixed-race woman and a powerful advocate for AAPI, Latinx, LGBT, and women’s rights–was murdered by Donte Wyatt in east Atlanta. Montoya was the director of field immigration and capacity-building initiatives at the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and the Leadership Conference Education Fund and the co-chair of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum.
Montoya is succeeded by her wife Meredith. A Facebook page and fundraiser have been created. All proceeds will go toward supporting Montoya’s family and her advocacy work.
